KIDS IN THE KITCHEN... join renowned food stylist Mish and daughter Sunny, bringing you kid friendly recipes.

We rejoin Mish, a food stylist and recipe developer currently chilling at home with her husband and 3 daughters in Melbourne. Inspired by her love of cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients she has put together some comforting and nourishing recipes to pass the days and fill their tummies, while stylish Sunny with her love of fashion and cooking is a very willing helper.

Pear Afternoon Tea Cake

Serves 4

Good luck not demolishing this in one sitting, it develops a custardy type centre and is best still warm from the oven. Sunny made the entire cake by herself, it’s ridiculously easy and quick to make.

125g unsalted butter 1 egg

Splash of milk

1 cup SR flour

1⁄2 cup caster sugar (plus 2 tbs extra for topping) 1 tsp vanilla extract

2 semi ripe pears cut in half and thinly sliced

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Pre heat oven to 180C and grease and line a small baking tin (18cm)

Melt the butter (almost completely) in a microwave or saucepan and pour into a 1 cup measuring cup, crack the egg in and top the cup up with milk until full.

Measure out dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Add the wet ingredients to the bowl with the vanilla extract and stir to combine.

Spoon the mixture into the tin and smooth out the top. Arrange the pears on top so they sink into the mixture and bake for 30 - 35 minutes.

Meanwhile mix together the extra sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the cake and serve warm.
